An Elkhart man who killed his young son during a mental health crisis has been sentenced in Elkhart County Circuit Court.
37-year-old Ryan Snyder was involved in an 18-hour standoff with police at his Pendleton Drive home in July 2024.
During that standoff, Snyder killed his 2-year-old son and kept his 5-year-old daughter in the basement while refusing to cooperate with police. Officers say Snyder fired at drones sent into the home before surrendering.
The Goshen News says Snyder pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent resulting in death and related charges. He was sentenced to 45 years at the Indiana Department of Correction, with 15 years suspended to probation.
