Suspected thief shoots himself, later found with critical injuries in Goshen

A man suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound after fleeing from officers investigating thefts from unlocked vehicles at a Goshen mobile home community, according to police.

Goshen Police were called to Brookside Manor, located at 61108 Old County Road 17, around 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, for reports of a person entering unlocked vehicles and stealing items.

Officers arrived and located the suspect, who police say shot himself in the head before running away on foot. After conducting an area search, officers located the individual and rendered aid.

He was transported to a South Bend hospital due to significant injuries.
