Right to Life of Michigan has filed a federal lawsuit over part of the state’s civil rights law that deals with abortion-related discrimination.

The group says a 2023 change to the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act violates its First Amendment rights, stating it can’t limit hiring to people who share its anti-abortion beliefs.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court in western Michigan and asks a judge to stop that part of the law from being enforced.

The change was made after Michigan voters approved a constitutional amendment protecting abortion rights. State officials have not yet responded in court.
