Several area lawmakers are applauding President Donald Trump’s 2026 State of the Union address, pointing to what they describe as major accomplishments during his first year back in office and outlining continued support for his agenda.

In statements released Tuesday night, U.S. Rep. Rudy Yakym, U.S. Sen. Jim Banks, and U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg all praised the president’s leadership and policy priorities.

Yakym, who represents Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District, issued the following statement:

“America is back. In just over a year, President Trump has delivered real results, reversing the damage left behind from Joe Biden. Inflation is down, the border is secure, taxes are lower, American energy is unleashed, and our strength is restored on the world stage. Tonight, he outlined those historic wins and a bold path forward to keep our country on track. I’m proud to stand with President Trump and continue fighting for hardworking Hoosiers and all Americans.”

Banks, a Republican from Indiana, also released a statement following the president’s address:

“Great way to kick off America 250 with a strong State of the Union Address by President Trump. And it was made even better by having the USA Men’s Hockey Gold Medal Champions in the audience.

In just over a year, President Trump has secured the border, enacted the largest tax cut in history for working families, fixed the military recruitment crisis, deported over 600,000 illegal immigrants, and restored law and order to our streets.

The United States is once again respected on the world stage. We are strong, focused, and putting America First.

At 250 years old, America isn’t slowing down. We’re gearing up. And President Trump is just getting started.”

Walberg, who represents Michigan’s 5th Congressional District, responded with the following statement:

“Tonight, I heard an important message from President Donald Trump. Our country is reversing course from the failed policies of the previous administration by reining in wasteful spending and costly regulations to offer vital economic relief to Michigan families,” said Rep. Walberg. “We have made unprecedented progress over the past year, including by increasing take-home pay, offering historic tax relief, and unleashing domestic energy production to alleviate the pain at the pump and allow Americans to keep more of their hard-earned dollars. We must continue to deliver and focus our efforts on growing our economy and reducing costs for Michiganders so they can achieve their own American dream.”

The statements reflect unified Republican support for the president’s policies, particularly on border security, tax relief, energy production, and economic growth. The president’s address also highlighted the upcoming “America 250” celebration marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Its really nice getting gas at $2.59/gal. It hasnt been above $3 for quite awhile! Grocery bills are lower too. No President is going to do a perfect job for 4 years (except George Washington) but Pres Trump keeps pulling off the impossible in a government deadset on sabatoging him constantly!
