Construction on the 80/94 FlexRoad project is set to begin this spring along the Borman Expressway.
The 14-mile project, led by the Indiana Department of Transportation in coordination with the Illinois Department of Transportation, runs from Interstate 65 in Indiana to Illinois Route 394.
Crews will install new traffic management tools including ramp meters, dynamic shoulder lanes, queue warning signs and more than 40 digital message boards to improve safety and traffic flow.
Fiber optic upgrades and pavement restoration are also planned.
Four lanes will remain open in both directions most of the time during construction, which is expected to continue through 2029, with all FlexRoad systems operational by late that year.
