Work is moving forward on a new interchange along State Road 2 in St. Joseph County. County leaders have signed off on the final changes needed to restart the project near the Amazon and General Motors plants.

Construction is set to begin this summer after the county and the state updated their agreement. One revision moved the funding deadline up to April 30 of this year, and another added language the state required before both sides could sign off again.

Local officials say the current intersection has been a safety concern for years, with drivers often struggling to turn onto State Road 2.
