The St. Joseph City Commission has approved a revised downtown paid parking program following months of public feedback.

In a 3-2 vote Monday, commissioners signed off on a significantly scaled-back version of the plan, which had originally been paused last July due to community concerns.

Under the new proposal, the number of metered parking spaces will be reduced from roughly 800 to fewer than 200. Paid parking will be limited to high-demand, on-street locations.

The program will run seasonally from June 1 through Labor Day weekend, with shorter enforcement hours than previously proposed. City residents will be allowed to park for free.

City officials say the revised plan reflects input gathered from residents and business owners over the past several months.
