More than 800 workers at the BP refinery in Whiting are out after the company locked them out when contract talks ended without a deal.
The union says BP is pushing for job cuts, lower pay, and changes to bargaining rights.
BP says the union hasn’t made enough progress on key issues and that the lockout could end if its latest offer is accepted.
Workers started picketing early Thursday. The union says it tried to reach a deal earlier in the week, but its proposal was rejected.
BP says negotiations had been going on for months and the decision came after those talks stalled.
About 900 families are affected.
BP says the refinery will keep running and does not expect any impact on fuel supply or gas prices.

Unions have done no favors for workers since OSHA was created. They cost the workers for dues every month and when they strike the money lost is never recouped. My dad was UAW for 30 years and voted against every strike. Speaking out against them brought threats to the family…communist strong arm tactics. Their time is past.
