A vehicle crashed into a commercial building Thursday evening following a hit-and-run incident on Cassopolis Street, causing significant structural damage.

Elkhart Police responded just after 6:50 p.m. to the 2800 block of Cassopolis Street. Investigators say a Buick Rendezvous was struck while pulling out of the Daylite Inn.

After the initial collision, the striking vehicle continued across the roadway, drove through the parking lot of Michoacána Burgos, and crashed into the rear of the building.

The second vehicle involved fled the scene and has not yet been located.

Police say the investigation remains active.
