NIPSCO workers stand for fair contract

NIPSCO workers say the company is asking for too much as the contract deadline gets close.
Leaders with the United Steelworkers say Northern Indiana Public Service Company wants changes that would cut pay, reduce sick time, and change schedules.
They say the company is also pushing for mandatory overtime and more use of outside contractors, which could take jobs away from union workers.
Workers rallied across northern Indiana on Sunday, including in Fort Wayne, LaPorte, and Crown Point, calling for a fair deal.
Union leaders say talks have been going on for weeks, but the company has not shown much movement.
They say the proposals could force overtime, cut pay and sick time, reduce hours during the day, weaken job protections, move some jobs out of state, and limit access to union representatives.

No union has ever stood for a fair contract. The unions will cheerfully put companies out of business if it gets them more dues in the short term. The Michiana area is littered with the carcasses of this policy.

The fact that NIPSCO has a government granted monopoly will be the only thing that keeps them afloat, even as We the People get fleeced monthly to pay for it all.
