Indiana unemployment rate holds below national average in March

Indiana’s unemployment rate stood at 3.3 percent in March, remaining well below the national rate of 4.3 percent, according to new figures released by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The state’s labor force participation rate was 63.3 percent in March, compared to the national rate of 61.9 percent. Indiana’s total labor force reached more than 3.49 million people.
Private sector employment in Indiana increased by 5,400 jobs from February to March, bringing total private employment to more than 2.83 million jobs statewide.
Manufacturing led job growth with an increase of 2,000 positions. Leisure and hospitality added 1,900 jobs, while trade, transportation and utilities gained 900. Financial activities added 700 jobs, and private educational and health services added 100 positions.
State officials say there were more than 98,000 open job postings across Indiana as of late March. Nearly 21,000 continued unemployment insurance claims were filed during the week ending April 4.
