Congressman Rudy Yakym has introduced legislation aimed at eliminating taxes on interest paid for RV loans.
The proposal, House Resolution 8672, would extend the Working Families Tax Cut’s “no tax on auto loans” provision to include trailers, campers and recreational vehicles.
Yakym said the measure would help working families who rely on RVs for travel and recreation.
“For millions of American families, an RV is how they take a summer road trip with the kids, see the country, or enjoy retirement on the open road,” Yakym said. “It’s a big investment, and it should be treated like one.”
Yakym, whose district includes Elkhart County, known as the RV capital of the world, said manufacturers and dealers have expressed support for the tax relief proposal.
The bill has also received backing from the RV Industry Association.
RV Industry Association President and CEO Craig Kirby said the legislation would restore travel trailers to the classification of “applicable passenger vehicles,” ensuring tax benefits are applied fairly across the industry.
Kirby said the change would help keep RV ownership affordable while supporting the nation’s $140 billion RV industry.
