Charges Filed in Shooting of LaPorte County Deputy

Prosecutors have filed multiple felony charges against a Chicago man accused of shooting a LaPorte County sheriff’s deputy at Franciscan Health Hospital in Michigan City on Friday, May 22.

According to the Indiana State Police, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division at the Lowell Post completed their initial investigation into the shooting of LaPorte County Sheriff’s Deputy Jon Samuelson.

Authorities say the findings were submitted to the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office, where Prosecutor Sean Fagan approved charges against 22-year-old Sharod L. Grafton.

Grafton faces charges of attempted murder, a Level 1 felony; battery against a public safety official, a Level 5 felony; and auto theft, a Level 6 felony.
