A new analysis of FBI burglary data shows Michigan had the sixth-largest increase in reported burglaries nationwide in 2026.

The study by Compare the Market found burglary reports in Michigan climbed 33 percent, rising from under 11,000 cases in 2025 to more than 14,600 so far this year.

Detroit recorded the highest number of burglary and breaking-and-entering reports in the state with more than 4,700 incidents.

Other cities reporting high numbers included Lansing, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo and Battle Creek.

Nationally, New York and Florida saw the biggest increases, while states like Washington, Maryland and Hawaii reported major declines in burglary cases.
