An Elkhart man has been sentenced in a child molestation case.

According to court documents, the victim told investigators she was repeatedly assaulted by a family member between the ages of 10 and 15.

Prosecutors say Marvis Johnson admitted some inappropriate conduct but claimed the victim initiated contact.

The Goshen News says the victim told police the abuse happened regularly over several years. Johnson pleaded guilty in April to one count of child molestation.

He was sentenced to 40 years, with 35 years to be served in the Indiana Department of Correction and five years suspended to probation.
