Court proceedings have been delayed for two Elkhart parents charged in the overdose death of their six-month-old son.
43-year-old Owen Miller and 42-year-old Nichole Neely face multiple charges following the January 2024 death of their infant. Their status conferences have been continued so the cases can be addressed together at a later date.
Investigators say neighbors called 911 after Miller sought help for the unresponsive child. Police found the home in unsanitary condition, and court documents allege drugs were present inside.
An autopsy determined the baby died from acute fentanyl and methamphetamine toxicity. Investigators also reported other children in the home were treated for fentanyl exposure.
Neely’s next hearing is scheduled for September 17, while a new joint court date is expected to be set for both defendants.
