Motorists traveling on U.S. 30 in Starke and Marshall counties will encounter a new traffic pattern beginning as early as the evening of Wednesday, July 22.
The Indiana Department of Transportation says contractor Rieth-Riley Construction is finishing work on the eastbound lanes between U.S. 35 and Union Road. Crews are completing guardrail installation, shoulder corrugations and temporary pavement striping before shifting traffic.
Once the change is in place, traffic in both directions will be reduced to one lane and routed onto the eastbound side of U.S. 30 while work begins on the westbound lanes.
Because both directions of traffic will share one side of the highway, drivers are urged to slow down, obey posted speed limits and follow all work zone signs. Left turns from U.S. 30 will not be allowed during this phase, and motorists entering or crossing the highway should use extra caution.
The project includes pavement repairs, resurfacing, drainage improvements and new pavement markings. Construction is expected to continue through the end of November. INDOT says the U.S. 35 ramp to westbound U.S. 30 will also close for about three weeks later in this phase of the project.
