BLAINE, Minn. (AP) — Authorities have released the names of two Michigan firefighters who died in a Minnesota crash.

The Minnesota State Patrol says Sunday that 25-year-old Alan Swartz and 23-year-old James Shelifoe died in the crash on Interstate 35W on Saturday afternoon.

Both men are both from Baraga, on the Upper Peninsula and were part of the Beartown firefighting crew from the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. The crew was headed to fight the Box Canyon wildfire in Utah.

Seven others in the truck were injured.

Authorities say the accident happened when the truck hit a median and rolled.

The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community released a statement Saturday saying that two of their firefighters died and several others were injured. The statement says: “our hearts are broken.”
