As an Elkhart family recovers from injuries in a hit-and-run crash Sunday, Elkhart police believe they have the person responsible for it.

However, police are not releasing the driver’s name yet, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The crash happened after 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of West Franklin and 5th Streets, according to the Elkhart Police Department.

Police discovered a Lexus that had the driver’s side smashed in extensively. A man, woman, and three of the four children in their vehicle, were treated for minor injuries at Elkhart General Hospital.

The man sent to the hospital described the driver of the other vehicle as a white male with a scruffy beard, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The vehicle that hit the car had reportedly blown a stop sign and crashed into the vehicle. It then left the scene northbound on South 5th Street, then fled east on High Street, according to police.

The suspected vehicle was located Monday afternoon, along with the man believed to be driving it at the time of the crash. His name will be released once charges are filed.
