Elkhart boy arrested after firing at home and critically injuring woman

A 14 year-old Elkhart boy has been arrested in connection with a Wednesday night shooting that injured a woman.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by a bullet in her home in the 200 block of Park Avenue Wednesday night, according to The Elkhart Truth.

The teenager in custody is accused of standing on Chester Street and firing a number of shots into the home of a 34-year-old woman who was inside.

Elkhart Fire Department paramedics rushed the victim to Elkhart General Hospital, where the woman was being treated for a single life-threatening gunshot wound, according to the Elkhart Truth.

Other people in the home were unharmed in the incident. The suspect was taken into custody around 3 a.m. Thursday morning.
