May Day protests were scheduled nationwide on Monday, including in Chicago and here in Michiana.

The traditional day to observe International Workers Day has morphed into a “Day Without Immigrants” in some major cities as the focus shifts this year to some of the president’s least-popular policies.

Two events are planned for our area, according to ABC 57.

A rally was held in South Bend at the Jon Hunt Plaza at 10 a.m. with community leaders and local undocumented students. Then, people will head over to the Cueramaro Supermarket in Elkhart for a march to the Civic Plaza, followed by a festival.
