Elkhart woman arrested after hit-and-run with baby in car

(Sam Householder/Elkhart Truth)

An Elkhart woman was involved in a hit-and-run crash that could have ended up a whole lot worse.

One person was hospitalized after the hit-and-run took place in the 600 block of Concord Avenue at around 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The crash could have ended up worse for all involved because a gas meter was struck. However, NIPSCO was able to turn the gas off.

The suspect was found near the 2600 block of Nappanee Street a while later and was arrested. She’s being charged by Elkhart police with criminal recklessness with a vehicle in addition to a hit-and-run.

An infant was found inside the vehicle. A relative drove to the scene to pick up the child.
