Fire officials: Explosion at Elkhart home caused by gas build-up

(Ben Quiggle/Elkhart Truth)

A build-up of natural gas appears to be the cause of an explosion and fire at a home in Elkhart.

Crews were called to the house of Neff Street on Tuesday, June 13, after neighbors reported the blast.

The fire began in the basement, then spread to the ground floor, according to the Elkhart Fire Department.

Crews are still investigation the cause of the gas build-up, as well as the source of the ignition, fire investigators stated.
