Substitute teachers at South Bend schools are getting a pay raise

Substitute teachers are getting a pay bump at South Bend schools.

The school board voted Tuesday night to increase the pay for a substitute teacher to $75 a day. That’s a $10 pay raise from the $65 they were getting.

The South Bend Tribune reports school officials realized that they were paying subs less than surrounding districts. The district is dealing with a shortage of available substitutes, but hope to make up ground on other districts with the pay bump, which now puts the district right in line with other districts.

The new substitute wages might go into effect as early as this week.
