Leader of Jaquez meth ring in Elkhart County sentenced to prison

An Elkhart man was sentenced despite his attorney pleading for a new trial for his client.

57-year-old Luis Jaquez received a 30 year sentence for dealing methamphetamine and a six year sentence for corrupt business influence, totaling 36 years in prison.

Jaquez was the leader of a network of a meth-dealing operation where meth would be brought into the county in the wheel wells of vehicles and funneled through an auto shop being used as a front.

However, the Elkhart Truth reports his attorney claimed that a witness lied about Jaquez’s involvement in the ring through letters he obtained.

The judge denied the attorney’s appeal, meaning his attorney will likely file an appeal.
