Over a dozen cats die in Walkerton fire

(Bill Beck/Elkhart Truth)

More than a dozen cats died in a house fire in Walkerton Sunday afternoon.

The couple who lived in the home on Towle Road in Lincoln Township shared it with nearly 20 cats. Some were rescues but there were also two litters of kittens.

The South Bend Tribune reports only three of the cats survived the fire after they were given oxygen by firefighters. The blaze broke out around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

It’s believed an electrical issue may have been the cause of the fire, which is still under investigation.
