Contractors in Benton Harbor say they have now replaced more than 25 percent of the lead water service lines in the city.

The city will also benefit from the Building Michigan Together Plan that was signed by Governor Whitmer last month, which directs $45 million to Benton Harbor infrastructure improvements that include those water lines.

All of the lines are scheduled to be replaced by spring of next year.

As of Thursday, the city says some 1,100 water service lines have been replaced, leaving around 3,300 to go. The city credits crews and community working together for how quickly the project has gone so far.
