The U.S. Supreme Court will not take up a case over who owns certain beaches along Lake Michigan in northwestern Indiana.

Three Indiana residents sued back in 2018 saying that the deed to their lakefront properties showed they owned private beaches up to the waterline and that they could exercise control over who had access to those beaches.

The state Supreme Court disagreed saying state law says the state has owned the beaches up to the ordinary water mark since it was founded.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s denial upholds that ruling meaning the public has access to those beaches.
