Elkhart County man found guilty after stabbing roommate to death

It’s a guilty verdict against the Elkhart County man who brutally stabbed his roommate to death.
It didn’t take long, at all, for the jury, on Wednesday, Feb. 8, to find Jake Brunette guilty of the November 2021 murder of Andrew Conley, who was stabbed to death. Brunette told investigators, at the time, he awoke from a dream where he killed his former roommate, and felt compelled to do it for real.
A woman who lived with the two men told police Brunette and Conley had a romantic relationship that became strained when Conley began dating a woman.
Brunette took the stand, during the trial, and admitted committing the crime after his defense attorney asked him “what happened.”
The defense rested its case after that single question.
