DNA from a coffee cup has linked a man to two different rape cases in two different states from more than 20 years ago.

Alan Rillema was arrested last week in Michigan on first and second degree criminal sexual conduct charges.

The first rape he is accused of was at a golf course in Michigan in 1999 when a food stand worker reported someone coming through an employee-only door and sexually assaulting her.

Investigators had DNA but no suspect.

The second rape was in 2000 at a Penn State University golf course when a woman was jogging and was raped at knife point.

DNA technology was able to narrow the search down to three brothers, and after authorities took DNA from a Styrofoam coffee cup used by Rillema, they found a match.

Rillema is being held in Michigan but also faces several felony charges in Pennsylvania, including rape by forcible compulsion, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, unlawful restraint, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
