The Indiana DNR is trying to slow the spread of spongy moth.

Treatment is planning to start on the week of June 19 in Fulton, Marshall, Starke, and Kosciusko counties. It will be conducted by the divisions of Forestry and Entomology as well as Plant Pathology.

It should begin in the morning, weather depending and take multiple days to complete. Each area should be finished by late morning or early afternoon.

A yellow airplane will be flying 75-125 feet above the tree tops, conducting the treatments.

They’ll be spreading a biodegradable, food-grade material that has the female pheromone.

The plan is to attract and confuse the male moths so that mating does not take place. People, animals, plants, and other insects will not be affected.
