Indiana State Police-Lowell Post conducts 24-hour traffic blitz

Last Friday, Aug. 30, troopers from the Indiana State Police Lowell Post and officers from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division conducted a 24-hour blitz targeting traffic violations and criminal activity along I-80/94 and I-65. The intensive patrols led to many traffic stops, citations, warnings, and arrests.

According to the Indiana State Police, the operation yielded the following results:

  • Traffic Stops: 327
  • Citations Issued: 237
  • Moving Violations: 147
  • Warnings Given: 231
  • Police Services Rendered: 47
  • Crashes Responded To: 13
  • Defendants Incarcerated: 12
  • Criminal Charges Filed: 36
  • Felony Charges: 5
  • Drug Arrests: 6
  • Operating While Intoxicated Arrests: 9
  • Driving While Suspended Arrests: 9
  • Commercial Truck Stops: 78
  • Truck Citations Issued: 58
  • Truck Warnings Issued: 68
  • Trucks Taken Out of Service: 14

While other regional law enforcement agencies also participated in the blitz, their statistics were not available at the time of this report. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts of state and local police to enhance road safety and combat crime across Northwest Indiana.
