Fairfield Community Schools has confirmed the termination of its athletic director.

Mark Engle submitted a resignation letter to the school board on November 5, though the board did not pass it, with just one of the five board members in support of his resignation.

Engle was placed under administrative leave in a last-minute decision following allegations of misuse of funds, and a letter from Engle admitted the inappropriate use of athletic department funds.

The Goshen News says the board did not accept his resignation but instead terminated him formally during the December 12 meeting.

Fairfield Superintendent Carrie Cannon said any further investigation will be handled by the Indiana State Police.
