Woman dead, man being treated after driving into the water near Michigan City DNR office

UPDATE: An update from the Michigan City Police Department states the adult female occupant succumbed to her injuries at the hospital on Oct. 5 and was identified as 50 year old Corbin, Kentucky resident Sherawn Chappell. The male’s identity is currently being withheld at this time due to the ongoing investigation and he continues to receive medical treatment at University of Chicago Hospital.

ORIGINAL STORY: Two people are in bad shape after police say a vehicle drove into Trail Creek in Michigan City.

Police say they arrived on Water Street near Michigan City’s DNR office around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4.

They say two adults were rescued from the vehicle, and they were both taken to a hospital.

Michigan City police are still investigating factors into the collision.
