State seeks shutdown of alleged unlicensed daycare in Goshen

Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration is asking a court to shut down what it describes as a large, unlicensed daycare operating from a Goshen home.

A civil lawsuit filed by the state names two women accused of running the childcare operation on County Road 42 without a license.

According to court documents, investigators received complaints and issued a cease-and-desist order in April before obtaining a search warrant last month.

When inspectors and deputies served that warrant Monday, officials say they found 86 children inside the home, including 66 children in a basement that reportedly had no fire escape. The filing also alleges three infants were strapped into car seats inside closets, with only three adults supervising all of the children.

The state is seeking both temporary and permanent court orders to stop childcare operations at the home. No criminal charges have been filed at this time.
