Indiana residents should get call blocking for cell phones, Greg Zoeller says

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Attorney General Greg Zoeller is encouraging Indiana residents who are still receiving unwanted calls on their cell phones to look at a new call-blocking reference sheet provided by his office.

Zoeller says that while Indiana’s Do Not Call list is effective in preventing legitimate telemarketers from contacting people, it doesn’t stop illegal telemarketers and robocallers who disregard state and federal laws.

Unwanted calls remain the top complaint received by his office, with 7,500 such complaints filed in 2015.

Zoeller has been urging phone companies that don’t provide comprehensive call-blocking service to make it available to customers as soon as possible.

Until more comprehensive services are available, Zoeller suggests Indiana residents explore the call-blocking options that currently exist.
