Smoked pig patty sandwich named Indiana State Fair signature food

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana State Fair says a smoked pig patty from the Indiana Pork Association has been named the signature food for this year’s event.

It says six concessionaires competed in the “Field to Farm”-themed competition and online voters selected the winner after viewing photos of all the entries and reviewing judges’ comments.

It says the winning item is a fully smoked, Indiana-grown, quarter-pound ground pork patty topped with barbeque sauce and dill pickle chips.

Contestants were asked to create a new menu item using farm fresh ingredients native to Indiana. The other entries included deep-fried sweet corn, a maple walnut waffle sundae and deep-fried apple pie bites.

The fair runs Aug. 7-23.
