The low gas prices seen at stations around Michiana are likely here to stay for the rest of winter.

Gas prices will likely bottom out at about $1.70 per gallon, but could jump up a little bit throughout the season, according to Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.

“You will see some bumps in the road where prices go up,” DeHaan told 95.3 MNC in a phone interview Monday. “They may go up to say $1.99 and then they’ll go back down. Most of the time, the bouncing around will take place under $2 a gallon.”

The low gas prices can be attributed to a season dip in demand, less refinery maintenance and very cheap crude oil prices. And lucky for consumers, DeHaan said all those three factors will stick around for much of the rest of winter.
