The price to hop aboard the South Shore train has gone up.

The ride from South Bend to Chicago rose from $11.75 to 13 dollars.

There is also a new weekday schedule, according to the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District. 

On Thursday, July 2, the South Shore will operate an extra eastbound train departing Millennium Station at 2 p.m. CDT to serve passengers leaving work early for the Independence Day holiday. The 2 p.m. train will make all normal weekday stops through Michigan City.

Alcohol is prohibited on all South Shore trains from Friday, July 3, through Sunday, July 5. Passengers should anticipate an increased transit police presence, according the NICTD.

Trains will operate on a regular weekday service schedule on Friday, July 3.

Since Independence Day falls on Saturday, July 4, the South Shore will run its regular weekend/holiday schedule through the weekend.

Van Buren and Millennium stations will be the only ticket offices open on Saturday.
