Police are looking for a woman in her 20s suspected in a hit-and-run crash that sent a 16-year-old girl to a hospital late Tuesday night, June 24.

The teenage girl was walking on 13th Street in Niles, Mich., at about 11:18 p.m. when she was hit by a silver sedan, according to a news release from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department. 

The driver of the car initially stopped to help the girl, but then got back in her car and drove away, according to the news release. 

The victim was injured on her head, arms and wrists. She was taken to an area hospital and later released.

The suspected driver is described as a white woman in her 20s with brown or blonde hair that was pulled into a pony tail. She is between 5-foot 3-inches and 5-foot 5-inches tall and weighs 120 pounds or less, according to the news release. At the time of the crash, she was wearing jean shorts, a white or gray tank top and sunglasses on her head.

A witness told police that the vehicle may have been a silver 2006-2011 Chevrolet Impala.
