As the Nov. 24 deadline nears, the city of South Bend is getting closer to making its goal in the 1,000 homes in 1,000 days project.

A total of 971 abandoned or vacant properties had been addressed as of Tuesday, June 23, WNDU reported. The city has 153 days left before the vacant and abandoned properties initiative must be complete.

On Tuesday, South Bend’s Board of Public Works approved a $1,660,500 contract with Green Demolition to demolish 127 properties, WNDU reported

Out of the properties addressed, 328 were repaired and refurbished.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced the project on Feb. 27, 2013.

The city of South Bend has an interactive map of all abandoned properties on its website.
