Vehicle crashes into Elkhart house during police chase

Damage was done to a home, as well as several vehicles, during a police chase in Elkhart.

It happened around 1 a.m. Saturday when Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department deputies attempted to stop a driver in the area of Benham Avenue and Hively Avenue.

The vehicle didn’t stop and led police on a chase when it struck a home in the 2600 block of Morton Avenue.

The vehicle continued to flee from police and later struck vehicles in the parking lot of Begley’s Automotive located in the 2600 block of S. Main Street in Elkhart.

The driver, who was later identified as Alvin Jones, 34, of Elkhart, fled on foot and was apprehended by police officers. Jones was arrested and incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail for possession of marijuana, criminal recklessness with a vehicle, habitual traffic violator for life, and for resisting law enforcement.
