Elkhart auto shop, vehicles damaged in business fire

(Bill Beck/Elkhart Truth)

Fire crews in Elkhart discovered several vehicles ablaze at an auto shop which caught fire in the 1800 block of Fieldhouse.

Crews were called to the scene around 4 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, to find fire and smoke inside the building.

Attacks to vehicle and building fires were made simultaneously.

Fire crews forced entry into the building and noted that there had been a collapse of the office area ceiling which hampered crews from reaching all areas that were on fire.

When fire conditions in the building intensified and crews evacuated and began battling the blaze from the outside until they knocked out enough of the fire to get back inside the building.

There was no report of any injuries.

An investigation was started by Deputy Fire Marshals as to the cause of the fire and is under investigation at this time.
