Legislation aimed at protecting the Great Lakes from invasive species is moving forward in Congress.

A House subcommittee held a hearing on Tuesday, July 21, on a bipartisan bill introduced by Michigan Congressman Tim Walberg and Maryland Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth.

The proposal would improve coordination between federal and state agencies to prevent and respond to aquatic invasive species, including zebra mussels, Asian carp and sea lamprey, which threaten the Great Lakes ecosystem and regional economy.
