New Paris babysitter accused of battering toddler arrested

ELKHART COUNTY — A New Paris woman was arrested after she was accused of hitting a child who later died of his injuries.

Jackie Rolston, 58, was charged Friday, March 20, with battery on a child resulting in death. Kirk Coleman, 19 months, was in her care when he died, according to 95.3 MNC’s news partner, The Elkhart Truth

The Elkhart County Coroner determined the child died on Oct. 29 from blunt force trauma to the head, Heather Norman, communications director for the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office, told The Elkhart Truth.

Senior Judge George Biddlecome issued a warrant for Rolston’s arrest Monday morning, March 23, according to the report.

As of Tuesday, March 24, Rolston was arrested and her bond was set at $100,000, WSBT reports, though it wasn’t immediately clear whether she was arrested late Monday night or early Tuesday morning.

She was still being held at the Elkhart County Jail at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
