New Paris babysitter accused in toddler's death scheduled to go to trial in October

An October trial date is set for the New Paris woman charged in connection with the death of a 19-month-old toddler.

Jackie Rolston, 58, was charged with one count of battery on a child resulting in death, a Level 2 felony. During a hearing Thursday morning, April 2, her trial date was set for Oct. 12.

Rolston was watching Kirk Coleman at her home last October when she called 911 and said the boy was choking on his food, according to court documents.

However, an autopsy showed that Kirk had signs of blunt force trauma to his head, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.

Rolston had a previous conviction for neglect of a dependent, but Kirk’s family told The Elkhart Truth that they didn’t know that.
