South Bend Cubs Opening Day 2015: Blammo to perform, lawn seats available, severe weather may hold off

Thursday, April 9, is the first Opening Day for the South Bend Cubs.

If you’re heading out to Four Winds Field this evening to see the Cubs take on the Bowling Green Hot Rods, here’s everything you need to know.

AT THE FIELD

The gates at Four Winds Field open up at 5 p.m. Blammo will perform and fans are welcome to walk around the stadium, watch batting practice and grab food.

Stu, the South Bend Cubs mascot, will make his debut at the game.

Famed Chicago singer Wayne Messmer will sing the National Anthem and Theo Epstein, Chicago Cubs president of operations, will throw the first pitch at 7:05 p.m.

There will be fireworks after the game, weather permitting.

Speaking of weather…

WEATHER

Don’t get too discouraged by the rain and thunderstorms hitting Michiana during the day.

A window of dry weather could start at about 4 or 5 p.m. and last until 9 or 10 p.m., according to Greg Bobos, a meteorologist at ABC 57.

FOOD

Of course a baseball game wouldn’t be complete without a hot dog, and the South Bend Cubs are serving what many call “the best hot dogs in baseball” — the same ones served at Boston Red Sox games.

Ben’s Soft Pretzels are the official pretzel for the South Bend Cubs, according to Flavor 574.

Philly cheesesteak nachos and burgers from Burgertopia are also on the food lineup.

TICKETS

Regular tickets are all sold out, but lawn seats might still be available.

You can buy tickets online or at the box office at the stadium.

If you’re heading out to the game tonight, post your photos on 95.3 MNC’s Facebook page or tag us (@953MNC) in your tweet and you might be featured in a gallery on 953mnc.com on Friday.
