Police body cameras proposal to be considered by Elkhart City Council again

Body cameras for officers with the Elkhart Police Department will be considered again by the Elkhart City Council at its meeting set for Monday, May 11.

Mayor Dick Moore proposed spending nearly $250,000 for 80 devices in February. His idea was met with questions from council members about the cost and legal issues the cameras would pose.

The issue is up for debate again as the council’s Finance Committee of the Whole plans to resume discussion.

The Elkhart City Council meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at Elkhart City Hall, 229 S. Second St., Elkhart.
