INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana State Police are warning motorists they’ll be cracking down on people who don’t use seat belts.

State police announced it will be taking part in the “Click It or Ticket” campaign from Friday to the end of the month. Capt. David Bursten says officers will join more than 250 state and local law enforcement agencies in Indiana, and thousands more across the country, to conduct high-visibility patrols encouraging people to buckle up.

Bursten says statistics show wearing a seat belt increases the chances of surviving a crash by more than 50 percent.

More than 200 troopers will be working overtime to conduct seat belt patrols on Indiana roads and interstates. Indiana law enforcement agencies have been actively involved in Click It or Ticket for more than 20 years.
