Rochester man killed in motorcycle crash on U.S. 31 in Miami County

A Rochester man has died after police say he lost control of his motorcycle.

Officers from the Indiana State Police and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department were called to U.S. 31 near Miami County Road 1200 North around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8.

On arrival, officers found the body of Phillip Nicklaus, 24, who they say was driving a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on U.S. 31 near Miami County Road 1200 North, according to a news release from Indiana State Police.

The investigation showed, for an undetermined reason, Nicklaus applied the brakes, causing the bike to slide onto its side. He was ejected from the motorcycle, according to the news release.

Nicklaus died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
